  • fritz Says -> sarvesh birthday treat at martins corner

Sarvesh’s birthday is on the 23rd of November.
so he had said that this year the treat will be at martins corner and must say he did keep his promise he left pune on 22nd reached goa 23rd morning and after that in the afternoon we met and went for a nice fish curry rice at city pride.
on the next day there were two more people touching down in goa satya and abhimanyu
so over the lunch we had our normal chit chat discussing about usual stuff our lives, technology, friends, good eating out places for fish etc etc
so after the lunch sarvesh headed home to get some much needed sleep since he was sleep deprived because of traveling the previous night.
I got back to my work in the office and then next day we were all suppose to go to martins corner sarvesh, fonda, satya, abhimanyu and me.

Fast forward to next day I get a call from satya saying his bus is slow and that he has still not reached goa and that he might reach goa a bit late and will then inform us about his lunch plans. I have a early meeting next day i wind it up by 1 and am back to the office sarvesh comes to pick us up at the office and then we head off and we have not heard from satya yet who was suppose to reach goa that very morning so we call him up he says bus was delayed and he has just reached home and that he wont be able to make it for the lunch and that he will meet us in the evening.

So on the way we have to pick up abhimanyu and saurabh both of whom are down to goa to collect their transcripts from the college since they are both headed to the US for higher studies they recently answered the GRE and scored pretty well on it so we pick them up from their college at PCCE and there is all sorts of confusion at this point will the kitchen be closed at martins corner and what will be our back up plan etc etc etc and all this time am cool because I know the kitchen wont be closed :)

Finally after a long drive and missing quite a few accidents on the way yes sarvesh was driving and even though he was not drunk he still tends to be a hopeless driver hahahaha
finally we are at martins corner it is a bit quite and less people are there because we are a bit too late for lunch but well we place our order
we had martins special mocktail since everyone was ordering those even i decided to go with that instead of my usual order for some refreshing beer. then we had some starters fried mussels, french fries, squid calamari and then we moved onto main course most of them ordered chicken pepper steak and I ordered myself some nice roast tongue (must admit I left 2 small pieces of it though as I was full with the mocktail and the starters) and over the lunch our conversation was mostly about tech since we were all techies there and am sure all this talk must have bored my bro hahahaha.

After we finished lunch we just lazied around a bit sitting there then we decided to take the long drive back to panaji on the way we just filled petrol and then got in touch with satya and told him to meet us at CCD miramar so on the way there we dropped fonda back to office and then we headed to CCD to lazy around some more :)
there also we talked about many things like google , interesting opportunities in video startups etc etc and then finally satya showed up and then we had a good time pulling his leg because of his recent US trip then we talked about work there and here how it is different etc etc and then finally we all decided to head our separate ways but before that sarvesh had to pick up some cashew nuts for his office colleagues since he was leaving for pune the next day and he wanted to pick up some stuff from the dollar store too and he was not the only one who picked up stuff from dollar store even i picked up a can opener needed one for the office pantry and abhimanyu picked up some stuff too am sure he could not help it as he is a real shopaholic ( yes he is sick and needs help he spends a hell of a lot of money on shopping so all of us should start praying for him to get well soon )

After that shopping spree it was time to call it quits for the day and I headed back to the office to get some work done and some surfing done :)

well about martins corner I don’t think we will be heading there in the near future since we need to find another place to check out but the food and the rates there are both good but till we go there again am still trying to figure out another place to sample when all of us meet again in december maybe it will be chef fernandos :)

Thanx to all the people who made phone calls sent sms’s and mails and had long chat sessions with me to know about my health and give advice and tips and even offered their cleartrip coupons etc hahahahaha.

I really appreciate the concern shown and am really thankful for all the best wishes.

Hmm from this episode I did come to know that there are a few people who want to see me alive hahahahaha yes from now on I am still pushing myself but not as much now I sleep for a decent amount and eat food on time and don’t skip meals anymore.

But have not yet given up on pushing my mind and body but now do it a bit smarter like I told a friend few days back it is worth dying while trying in something you believe in and feel worth giving your body and mind rather then dying later in life repenting that you never had the will power to pursue your dreams.

Well thanks once again on a lighter note the below image done by a close friend of mine selwyn is inspired by my the small incident in my life and no there are no prizes for guessing which incident hahahahaha :) so enjoy !!!!

The image is not loading from blogger :( so here is the link chk out the selwyn’s blog and guess the image :)

For all you who are wondering what is this post about well this post is about Mukesh Ambani’s proposed new residence in bombay called Antilia.

Well I personally don’t own a residence of my own yet but will do so someday :)
but I do follow a lot of this residential luxuries of famous people whether they are shown on forbes mag or on MTV Cribs yes I watch cribs because looking at those houses you learn what are the things you need to get for your crib when it is up.

Well for a sneak peek at the proposed 4000+ crore residence of reliance CMD mukesh ambani the pic is given below of what the proposed architecture might look like once complete more details can be seen here in short it is

    • 27 storeyed
    • 6 floors for parking of 168 imported cars
    • one floor for an inhouse car service center
    • entertainment floor with a mini theatre with sitting capacity of 50 (looks like the rich guy does not have many friends hahahaha)
    • health floor with swimming pool and facilities for athletics
    • for visiting guests there will be 2 floors wow does this mean now all the visiting dignitaries of reliance be staying there instead of a hotel somewhere ?
    • 600 staff will be working there
    • three helipads on the terrace

Way to go man what a place to stay hats off to you for that you should work hard and also stay in luxury and party hard after reaping in the rewards and finally the Indian Businessmen are realising it with the huge number of private jets being purchased, expensive imported cars, luxury apartments etc etc it is a good sign for a booming economy.

This residence will go well with his new flying office worth 245 crores see (this) for more info. Wow I am just imagining what the other ambani brother is doing who is keeping a low profile with all this big ticket spendings by elder brother well its not that he does not have the money but then again he does not have as much as his elder brother hahahaha

Well it will take some serious spending by another Indian to belittle Mukesh’s crib in India but hey it can be done even though I would say all this are the things that even I look for in a crib but there are more facilities and a hell of a lot of cutting edge tech inside and outside.
my crib so now you know the list of luxuries that I want to own someday is not just restricted to a private island and private jet for my world travels for holidays, partying and cuisine tasting hey who wouldn’t want to just board their plane and go to italy and have a pizza and come when in the mood rather then settling for a domino’s or pizza hut one :)

Realistically(as reality sinks in sob sob sob) speaking at present I need a single bedroom apartment of my own and a small office to work on my building empire dreams :)

Hmm am wondering why name a residence after a mythical island ?? any ideas y ????

  • fritz Says -> finally getting a taste of martins corner

Yes finally after months and months of planning of when we would give another shot at going to martins corner after one fail try last time see (this) for my earlier experience at martins corner we made it there yesterday though many of us had planned to come but only two of us Sarvesh and myself could make it there but that was not reason enough for us to cancel plans so we did make it there.

We got in sat on a table close to the entrance as that was the only place remaining which was for two people rest of all the tables left were for 4 or more we noticed around a bit saw the atmosphere it was good quite homely with many families there small kids running around the wooden shack theme for the place is also good even though after sitting down we were left without a waiter and a menu for around 20 mins that was the only complaint for the night rest of it was smooth sailing and the food was simply delicious and tasted a lot like home cooked food.

After we got the menu we placed our order for drinks I had Sweet Fresh Lime Soda and sarvesh had Lemon Iced Tea. Sarvesh wanted to have a budweiser but I reminded him that he was driving and I dont like the person who is driving the car that am in to drink :) so in order not to tease him even I didn’t order a beer for starters we ordered Mussels rawa fried and calamari masala fried the starters were served quite fast then we placed our main course order shark ambotik with rice and kingfish butter garlic fried and it was good that we ordered and decided to share as the quantity for the rice was too much and I would never have been able to finish it all by myself even two of us eating could not finish it :)
I guess it was because both of us had good starters and drinks too and just before leaving the office I had 3 samosas.

At the time we were having food got a call from hemant who is down in goa that he is dropping in the office so told him will be back in the office by 4:30 so we had our lunch talked about stuff and then headed off back to panjim where I was to be in the office and sarvesh had to go home rest and study for his interview next week. So Met Hemant in the office chatted for a while then he left and I got back to my office work.

It was a fun outing and Sarvesh has decided that his birthday bash which is coming up now will be in martins corner WOW cant wait to get there again and that time there will be more people with us plus we still have that go karting outing which was planned months ago but never happened and not to forget we will again meet all of us for a friends wedding in december. looks like next two months we have lots of activities planned and outings well am looking forward to all of them and loads of quality friends time away from work :)

Note to myself: Buy a Good Digital Camera so that the Pholog can be updated :( with photos of my adventures well the startup mode makes you a poor poor man living on bare minimums but I have to save some money to buy a digital camera soon.

  • fritz Says -> catching up with selwyn after a long time

Well today was a fun outing in the afternoon when the four of us Me, Fonda ,Sarvesh and Selwyn all went out for lunch at Godinho’s it is a small goan restaurant here in panjim famous for its goan food. Since we all met in my office at campal and since sarvesh was the only one with a mode of transport he took up the responsibility of shuttling all of us to our destination thnx dude for the shuttle service :)

So we sat down and continued with our chat and catching up with what is happening with one another I guess distance really pulls people apart and today I realized it since we had not talked like this for a long long time well if my memory serves me right the last time we were like this was on our trip to nagpur but then we had another monkey with us Satya hahahaha but now even with constant chatting and sometimes phone calls it is no supplement for a personal outing with the gang ;) but all of us are where we are because of the choices we made in our careers so it is all cool but whenever we are down we should make it a point to meet up (hmm am always up for it but the others come with a predefined schedule for their activities in goa and find it bit difficult to squeeze in old friends time in that schedule )

Well after sarvesh made three trips from office to godinho’s to shuttle all of us there we got down and ordered our lunch (the service was slow it is because the place was full and they were short on waiters so it took some time for the waiter to come to us to take our order but we did take a lot of time to decide what we were having selwyn could not decide about chicken or squids hmm he was saved from his agony with the fact that there were no squids hahahaha and he has made bigger choices then ordering from a restaurant menu wonder how he made those choices ) Well finally we ordered I ordered pork balchao, fonda ordered beef fry with capsicum and sarvesh and selwyn settled for the chicken cafreal some french fries and some drinks two cokes and two 7up’s the food was not good not at all tasty like the normal godinho’s food maybe the cook has changed but then again we all had our lunch and then we headed back to my office for some more chit chat.

There we talked about new ventures told them about my new comics idea and they could not stop laughing at my story but am sure its a billion dollar franchise and I will see who will laugh at it later hahaha (evil laugh). Talked about our jobs, where our lives are headed etc
talked about movies, comics, games etc etc then finally we dispersed as selwyn had to get home and rest (that is the main reason he comes to goa to sleep hahaha) well it was quite a nice half day considering the fact that I was a bit upset with some office developments in the morning but the afternoon outing really cheered me up :) hopefully we will have more outings like this in the future with our lives becoming more and more work centric we find such things difficult to plan and execute as all of us are spread all over the place seperated by huge geographical distances and are no longer in a small place called Goa.

  • fritz Says -> no money = funday

Yes thats right and I (fritz dsouza) am making that statement and will come as a shocker to all who know me hahahaha.

Today was a funday as usual was in my office getting some flow charts done as there was no electricity so was not on my laptop and the TV was also off. So at that point of time got a call from sarvesh saying that he is outside the office so I opened the door for him he came in we sat and talked for a few minutes then he said this office is not healthy we need to get out so we went to CCD miramar we sat there discussed a lot of things work, friends etc etc the normal chit chat and after that I ordered our drinks and we sat there talked a bit till and sipped our drinks and then the bill came and thats when the fun begin I forgot to carry cash since my mind was still preoccupied with the analytics issue that i am currently working for on a project and I thought sarvesh would pick up the tab hahahaha and he realized that even he forgot to carry cash hahahahaha at that point of time I was about to crack up laughing as I found the situation funny but sarvesh was pissed with the fact that they would not accept credit cards :(

The credit card issue was raised earlier also at CCD miramar by abhimanyu during one of our meetings there and the situation that we were in was the first time in last couple of weeks that i found really genuinely funny and relaxing and I knew that fonda was on the beach so called him to come there with cash and then he said he was not on miramar beach but at baga beach hahahahahaha and I was totally enjoying the situation so I just waited there till sarvesh went to a nearby SBI atm and got the cash and then we moved from there to the beach walked a bit talked more and then sat at dsilva’s since sarvesh wanted to have fish and we waited there for quite a few mins in fact (close to an hr and half but the fish cutlets never got ready so he settled for a chicken roll ) and then we ran into a couple of old college friends exchanged a few pleasantries and well we were back to our discussions we didnt know that it was that long that we were at dsilva’s as we were totally busy talking about our wednesday plans to either go to brittos or martins corner for some good food and relaxing time.

Well after the chicken roll i got back to office and sarvesh headed back home to prepare for his interview well the day was fun because of one simple incident and that was of not having money at CCD I still find it nice and funny and it gets a smile on my face. I remembered a similar situation when we had gone on a mini adventure at ooty and ran out of cash and had to do a lot of running around ( I mean walking around in scenic otty hahahaha) to find an atm for withdrawing some cash we finally found one you should have heard some of our backup plans hahahahahaha.

Most of the time the pressures are about money but sometimes not having any can be a funny situation and totally relax your mind. Now am looking forward to another adventure on wednesday but then we will not be dependent on an atm and will carry some cash this time hahahahahaha. I had fun today catching up with whats happening in our friends circle and our work lives and also about personal lives, new crushes etc etc but the icing on the cake was the CCD incident hahahahaha

So cheers to a great fun outing with no beers :P

  • fritz Says -> a perfect little car for me atleast one of the many out there for me

Yep a car like (this) would be perfect for me down here in Goa even though there are bit of concerns about it just going 125 miles on a charge that is roughly 200 km well for a small place like Goa it would be perfect for me to get around the only thing that will have to change is the color though Wink as it has to have some sort of shade of blue but even this is color is cool enough for a guy whose name is D’souza Fritz D’souza

Oh if it can come with all the necessary cool gadgets and must haves like a missile launcher, a GPS tracking unit, a beer chiller,a nice music system, a TV with a satellite dish ya ya this is a lot to ask even without this gadgets the car is good to look at and also a technological marvel in a way I guess so a must have anyway once it hits the market and you don’t have to move around a lot on one charge for your vehicle I guess this vehicles would pick up and go mainstream if they could be recharged fast like even if it goes 200 km but if you could recharge the vehicle in say 5 minutes for another 200 km that would be perfect as then instead of gas stations you will see electric charging stations within the radius of 200 km.

Well this one is by Subaru and Nissan is also coming out with one but I wonder if there is any indian company other then Reva working on something like this as tata’s are too busy working on their 1 lakh Rs wonder car which I am very very anxious too see.

(image is linked from cnet site see the above linked article for more details about the car)

  • fritz Says -> startup pains release 0.4- Motivating the workforce
    11:09 pm on October 10, 2007 | 0 Permalink | Reply
    Tags: , , , goa, , , , ,

Well for those who came in late (yes this line is taken from phantom comics of which I am a huge fan) in this series so far I have discussed the issues on the formation of startup then the human resource issue and then the funding so the first three articles in this series covered the above mentioned issues. Now for the 4th article in the series it is all about the motivation factor how do you keep the team motivated through the thick and thin?

Motivating oneself is very very difficult but motivating others is virtually impossible with that said it is always good to give a shot at solving something which is impossible. when you are putting together a team they are all pumped up thinking about what they will be doing and how they will be doing it but once they join they get in the comfort zone and then they can go in a bit of a rut which can ultimately lead to becoming a unproductive employee who pulls everyone down and this is one problem that every entrepreneur should look for don’t allow anyone to get into the comfort zone how to do that? have ideation meetings, have brainstorming sessions regularly, update the people about the overall progress what has been achieved and what is remaining to be achieved all this meetings help in keeping the morale up and also keeps the people on their toes.

Motivation factor varies from person to person some would be motivated by money, others by praise and some would some other way. Identifying what are the motivational factors for the team members is very important. Well in long term if you find that some member of your team is pulling everyone down then that member has to go out to keep the startup ecosystem healthy and motivated. Well being good at what you do and being motivated are two different things in a startup what is required is person who is good and one who is motivated.

The Motivation factor is not only an issue for startups but also for established firms as motivational factor lacking in established firms lead to lack of growth and can stunt the growth most of the time this leads to disaster for long term prospects of the firm as innovating and striving for growth is not only the mantra for a good startup but for any company.
